IXORA COCCINEA AND OTHER MOST CULTIVATED SPECIES OF IXORA AN ORNAMENTAL PLANT

Ixora coccina belonging to family Rubiaceae is very sturdy ornamental plant,native of East India,grows to a height of 45-60cm. The stiff,dark green leaves are pointed and the young ones are red when they unfold.The plants produce clusters of brifght scarlet flowers arranged in large heads at terminal ends. The plants blooms in two season,in summer as well as during the onset of rainy season.There are various colours of flowers observed in Ixora.Ixora arborea syn.parviflora,a small ,flowered,bushy plant blossoms white and have sweet scent. Ixora chinensis has a small leaves and red to white flowers Ixora duffi is a medium sized plant of 60 cm in height and has large leaves and bright red flowers in large heads. Ixora fulgens another species with orange scarlet blooms.Ixora griffithssi is a compact and free orange flowers.Ixora jawanica is a dwarf species with orange red flowers.Ixora lutea has cluster of yellow flowers. Ixora stricta is a dwarf variety with smaller pointed,evergreen leaves,has yellow flowers.Ixora rosea has a pink flowers.Ixora is grown almost in any garden as it have attractive colourful flowers.
